Communication and Outreach Officer
June – December 2018
6-month Contract, Full-time (some evening and weekend work may be required.)
Our mission is to promote a quality of life in Kings County through a provision of services and information in support of volunteerism. KVRC is the only Volunteer Resource Centre in the Province. It is committed to reflecting best practice in volunteer management and responsiveness to community needs.
Reporting to the KVRC Board Chair, who will act as the manager of project, the officer will bring a comprehensive background in communications and marketing to the role. They will work to develop strong relationships throughout community and social services sector to launch the province wide volunteer linking website, Volunteer NS.
The Officer will be responsible for the project coordination for the design (non-technical), outreach, communications and launch of a new province-wide volunteer linking website. These responsibilities include:
a) Drafting and Execution of an Outreach and a Communications plans.
b) Training of identified individuals/organizations on the use of the volunteer linking website. Work with individuals and organizations to input data to the platform.
c) organization and coordination of duties of volunteer linking site partnership committee;
d) track and record Project Budget;
e) media buying: capable in researching media products to promote the linking site including social media; and
f) media relations: writing media releases and handling media inquiries.
The Officer will possess a variety of skills pertaining to training, project management and communications.
a) Able to work independently.
b) Strong writing and editing skills.
c) Must be a confident communicator, presenter and skills trainer.
d) Excellent organizational and planning skills
e) Superior project management and time management skills
f) A wide degree of creativity.
g) High tolerance for ambiguity in a changing environment.
h) Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media
i) Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach
j) Proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point
a) A degree in Public Relations, Marketing or Journalism with 5 years relevant experience or 15 years’ equivalent experience.
Travel within the province will be required.
It is expected that the officer will liaise with the KVRC Coordinator as required but will complete the assignment independently.
At the completion of the contract the anticipated result will be an operational provincial website, Volunteer NS, linking volunteers with volunteer opportunities across the province.
