Kings Volunteer Resource Centre (KVRC) is seeking a Part-time Centre Coordinator (10-15 hrs/week). Excellent interpersonal, computer and organizational skills are required. This position is a term position for 6 months with the possibility of renewal and/or increase in the number of hours.

Position description for

Kings Volunteer Resource Centre Coordinator

The Kings Volunteer Resource Centre (KVRC) promotes quality of life in Kings County through the provision of services and information in support of volunteerism. KVRC is the only Volunteer Resource Centre in the Province. It is committed to reflecting best practice in volunteer management and responsiveness to the needs of the Kings County Community. Clients of the KVRC are defined as volunteers or those interested in volunteering in Kings County as well as organizations interesting in benefiting from the services of volunteers.

The Coordinator is responsible, under the supervision of the KVRC Board of Directors, for day to day implementation and coordination of KVRC activities, providing administrative services to the Board, and representing the KVRC to the community. The Coordinator will also play an important role in helping further develop and expand the work of the Centre.

 DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Centre Services:

  • Provide or ensure provision of appropriate administration of the KVRC Centre
  • Respond to client enquiries and requests ( in person, telephone, internet)
  • Continue to develop, manage and evaluate effective systems for linking prospective volunteers with appropriate placements
  • Manage and update content of current databases, identifying the need for any adaptions to the systems
  • Actively liaise between volunteer organizations and community groups, proactively identifying potential placements to match volunteer skills
  • Develop and administer membership base and systems for managing membership lists
  • Youth Development – identify:
  • Youth perspectives on volunteerism and volunteer roles
  • Characteristics of volunteer placements of interest to youth
  • Barriers to youth volunteerism
  • Perspectives on assuming leadership roles in the voluntary sector(level of interest in the not-for-profit sector, personal interest in leadership, type of roles of interest to them)
  • Resources and supports needed for finding volunteer positions

Community Relations, Promotions and Outreach:

  • Represent the KVRC to the Community
  • Actively participate with the KVRC Board of Directors in developing a plan for creating and maintaining a positive profile of KVRC with the Kings County community
  • Promote membership in the KVRC as directed by the KVRC Board
  • Initiate and effectively manage relationships with businesses, user organizations and government services
  • Network with organizations, businesses, government agencies, community groups and the larger community to continually assess unmet needs related to volunteerism and potential support for volunteerism
  • Maintain and provide information packages for clients
  • Develop and administer two community network meetings:
  • Offer and evaluate two educational / networking opportunities
  • Determine effective organization and communication strategies for networking events
  • Determine both level interest in the Network concept, and priority issues and topics
  • Develop guidelines for future sessions.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to evaluate promotion activities
  • Promote, coordinate, evaluate a variety of educational and awareness opportunities to encourage and support volunteerism

 Board Support:

  • Act as Administrative support
  • Attend all KVRC Board meetings as a non-voting member
  • Conduct preparatory activities for all regular, special and Annual Meetings

 Financial/Fundraising:

  • Develop and manage budgets within Board identified guidelines for educational and other public events, ensuring accurate accounting of income and expenditures
  • Participate, as required in fundraising activities

Position Requirements/Assets

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills, including ability to build consensus among diverse perspectives
  • General computer competence, with skills in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit organizations, and community groups
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead development and coordination of community projects; and to meet project timelines
  • Interpersonal skills, including skills in engaging with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Reporting Lines:

The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Board of Directors through the Board Chair (or other Board member assigned by the Chair).

 Terms of Employment:

This is a Part-Time Term (6 month) position (10-15 hours weekly), with the possibility of renewal. Compensation is $20.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.

 Evaluation:

In addition to regular meeting with the Board Chair or designate, there will be a formal probationary evaluation after one month of employment.
