We're Hiring! Outreach (Marketing), Communications & Program Coordinator

1.0 Background Our mission is to promote a quality of life in Kings County through a provision of services and information in support of volunteerism. KVRC is the only Volunteer Resource Centre in the Province. It is committed to reflecting best practice in volunteer management and responsiveness to community needs. 2.0 Scope of Work Reporting to the KVRC Board Chair, the Coordinator as the senior staff of KVRC, will bring a comprehensive background in volunteer engagement, communications, project management and social marketing to the role. They will work to develop strong relationships throughout the non-profit community and social services sector to enhance a province wide volunteer linking website, Volunteer NS, as well as KVRC as a whole. 3.0 Tasks The Coordinator will be responsible for the broad programming of KVRC which includes management of the KVRC office, coordination of our educational events, coordination with community partners, implementation of any project KVRC undertakes, the for the operation and maintenance (non-technical) of VNS, outreach, communications and maintenance of the province-wide volunteer linking website. These responsibilities include but not limited to:

  1. Managing KVRC and VNS on a day-to-day basis, with the support of Admin Assistant.

  2. Be the liaison between KVRC and apex organizations in the sector ie Volunteer Canada, VMPC, VMPNS, IONS.

  3. Represent KVRC at public events ie appropriate Trade Shows, Conferences for purposes of raising public image of KVRC & VNS;

  4. Supporting any staff/contractors engaged by KVRC;

  5. Drafting and executing an Outreach and a Communications plan for Volunteer NS;

  6. Training of the public (individuals/organizations) on the use of the volunteer linking website. Work with individuals and organizations to input data to the platform;

  7. Media buying: capable in researching media products to promote the linking site including social media;

  8. Media relations: writing media releases and handling media inquiries, planning media conferences where necessary;

  9. Work with Volunteer Attract to update the volunteer linking website;

  10. Track and record website analytics and social media engagement and media coverage for evaluation purposes for KVRC and VNS with the assistance of the Admin Assistant;

  11. Assist KVRC to draft an evaluation framework; conduct evaluation as required;

  12. Attend all meetings as required by KVRC, including Board and Committee Meetings with the purpose of being the Secretariat of the KVRC ie, maintain appropriate files in good order;

  13. Work with all funders to provide required information they require ie reporting;

  14. Have oversight of the KVRC website to ensure it is current and relevant.

  15. Have oversight of KVRC and VNS marketing materials to ensure they are current and relevant.

  16. any other tasks deemed essential to the goals of KVRC.

4.0 Skills The Co-Ordinator will possess a variety of skills pertaining to volunteer engagement, management, training, project management and communications including social media.

  1. Able to work independently.

  2. Strong writing and editing skills.

  3. Must be a confident communicator, presenter and skills trainer.

  4. Excellent organizational and planning skills.

  5. Superior project management and time management skills.

  6. A high degree of creativity.

  7. High tolerance for ambiguity in a changing environment.

  8. Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media;

  9. Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach;

  10. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and related desk top publishing software).

​​ 5.0 Education & Experience Ideally the applicant with have formal, post secondary education in Volunteer Management. However, A variety of educational and work experiences will be considered. Ideally, the applicant will have a least 5 years experience in the non-profit sector with a focus on Volunteer Management. This is a .8 position, offered by KVRC, for the specified time in their contract. The Officer will be compensated at the rate of $30.00 per hour 30 hours each week. Expenses will be reimbursed according to KVRCs expense policy. Our office is in the County Fair Mall, New Minas. Office hours are currently Mon-Thurs 10-3pm.
